Past

In the beginning when The Light first created man The Darkness was jealous. The Darkness saw the love that man harbored for The Light and wished to have that for herself, but man feared The Darkness. The Darkness decided to create her own children, who became known as the Dark Ones. Just like the Darkness man feared the Dark ones, and try as they might neither The Light or Darkness could convince man to see past their fear. Eventually man's fear lead them to kill the king and queen of The Dark ones. This was the last straw for The Light who decided to take away the sun from the world and vowed to return it when man learn how to look past their fears. The years past and man did exactly as The Light wished. In fact, they came to worship The Dark Ones as deities, and due to absolute power, they had over man The Dark Ones begun to abuse and torture man. Angels who had been tasked with being man's Guardian were not happy with this development.

Angels tried their best to protect man against the horrors The Dark Ones were inflicting upon them, but a world of darkness was not a place beings of light could stay upon for an extended period of time, and as such this limited their ability to protect mankind. They asked The Light for another means to protect their charges and God responded to their request by traveling to the realm of demons known as Hell and asking them to take upon the role of man's guardian. In exchange for their protection man would provide demons with food. Demons agreed to these terms, and for the first time in a long-time man were safe once again, but this did not last because as one might realize powers corrupt and demons began to abuse their charges. Once again, Angels were virtually powerless to help their charges against their new tormentors that was until a human by the name of Sara Jean climbed the tallest mountain and asked the light for a weapon, they could use to protect themselves their enemies. The Light moved by Sara Jean decided to return the sun back to the world.

The return of the sun caused the Dark Ones to retreat to another realm because they were very much beings of the dark and found themselves unable to stay within a world of light for an extended period of time. Demons, on the other hand, were not affected by the sun's return and thus continued their reign of terror, but the sun's return allowed angels to protect man with the full extent of their powers. However, it soon became clear that demons had the upper hand and thus The Light created Sol in order to balance things out and give man a means to escape out from beneath the boot of their tormentor, and for awhile it worked but after the death of her lover at the hand of a female demon Sol began to travel the earth and slaughter demons indiscriminately. Others used this chaos to slaughter demons, half-breeds or demons' lovers they might not have liked or simply felt like killing for other reasons and making it appear as if Sol did the deed.  Eventually, Sol decided to hold a meeting with The Light and the current ruler of Hell and together they created the Covenant of Heaven and Hell.

The Covenant dictated how the supernatural acted upon the realm of man and what the punishment were for breaking the various laws set into place. Not everyone was happy about this arrangement. Some merely because they didn't like their powers being limited in some manner. Others because they believed that Sol should have been punished for her crimes. One such being was a demon by the name of Rayis who hated Sol for killing his family, or so he believed she was responsible for this crime. Together with his brother Sandlephen, Rayis decided that he was going to take over everything an create a universe where Sol would get the punishment she deserved. The opportunity to take over heaven came when The Light decided to leave heaven for some reason. Rayis and Sandlephen invaded heaven, removing those who might stand in their ways in some manner and Rayis took on the role of the Light.

Lucifer came into being just before the real Light had left heaven, but due to the fact he was far too young to harbor any memoires he believed Rayis to be the creator and he along with the other young angels adored Rayis, and Rayis loved the young angels as well. It was through his interactions with them that one could see the loving and devoted father he had been. It, also, became clear that he had a special fondness for Lucifer. One might argue that Lucifer was his favorite, and the fact that Lucifer grew to be Rayis' right hand only cemented this belief. He became known as the Morning Star and as he grew, he began to notice the corruption of heaven. It was not a world of beauty and light, but rather a realm where love was regarded as the most unforgivable sin. After a while, Lucifer began to question these things and eventually brought his concern to the creator. He thought the creator would somehow ease his worries, but that was not the case.

Instead, Rayis became very angry and told Lucifer to forget such questions, but even if he wanted to that was not something that Lucifer could do. This only enraged the creator more and he had Lucifer's memories erased, but those memories did not stay gone for long. Once again, Lucifer found himself standing before whom he believed were the creator asking questions that enraged him to no end. This time, Rayis removed one of Lucifer's wings and told him that if he continued to ask questions, he had been told not to that his other wing would be removed. This was not something any angel wanted as the loss of one's wings was a fate worse than death. Without their wings, angels turned into ghouls. He told Lucifer if he apologized and vowed never to question the creator again that he would return the wing that he had stolen. Others might have flung themselves at the creator's feet begging for forgiveness, but Lucifer turned and left the room. The creator did not pursue him. Perhaps, he had thought Lucifer needed time or perhaps he didn't care if Lucifer apologized or not, as long as the questions stopped.

The truth was Lucifer was horrified over what had just happened. He did not think he had done anything to warrant the loss of one of his wing's. He had only asked questions. At first, he believed he had done something else to make the creator so angry with him, but the passage of time caused him to wonder if it was not him who was in the wrong but rather the creator himself. He decided that the creator was corrupt and unfit to rule. The creator needed to be removed from the throne of heaven. He didn't know who should sit upon the throne, and some part of him believed that whoever sat upon the throne would only do it while whatever ill the creator was remedied. With this thought, Lucifer started a rebel group, and a great war broke out. This war lasted for some time, but eventually a victor emerged. It was not Lucifer.

Lucifer and the other angels who had sided with him during the war were brought before the creator to receive their punishment. They all knew what punishment they could potentially face for their rebellion. The creator told them that if they flung themselves at his feet and begged for forgiveness that he would be lenient on them. Many took this as the creator was planning on removing their wings and some started to do as was commanded but stopped upon noticing Lucifer had not moved an inch. Once again, Rayis commanded them upon their knees and yet again Lucifer refused that order with a simple lack of action. After a while, it became clear to Rayis that Lucifer was not going to bow to him. Fed up, Rayis told Lucifer that he and the other rebels were beyond redemption and were banished from heaven.  However, he added something extra to Lucifer's punishment.

He had Lucifer wrapped in chains that would not only greatly limit Lucifer's powers but prevent him from entering heaven again. Being banished from heaven didn't physically keep one out, but only made it clear to others they were no longer welcomed within the kingdom of the light. And while Lucifer had lost, he had come very close to winning and Rayis knew if given another opportunity that he very well might emerge the victor. The best way to prevent this was remove any chance of a second attempt. Lucifer questioned why he didn't simply kill him because that would be the best way to ensure Lucifer didn't make any more attempts, and when Rayis responded by merely pushing him out of heaven Lucifer suspected the answer.

Present

Surprisingly, Lucifer ended up within hell. He fought his way up the ranks of hell, proving that despite what those of hell thought that he was not going to submit. He rose until he found himself facing Deamiel--the King of Hell. Try as both might they could not defeat each other. Both realizing if this stalemate wasn't put to an end that a war that would completely. devastate the population of hell would break out and neither wanted that. Lucifer had come to care greatly for the demons he found himself living among and came to regard them as his people. More than that, he believed Deamiel to a good leader. He had just vowed when he had stood before the creator that he would never submit to anyone again, but before he could decide what course of action he was going to take, whether he was going to hold true to his vow or break it, Deamiel suggested that they rule together.

Lucifer having no problem with being someone's equal agreed to this arrangement. While he never said it a loud, he was grateful that Deamiel had given him a solution to his dilemma. The pair decided that Deamiel would continue to run the governmental aspect of hell while Lucifer took reign over the parts of hell humans are most familiar with. Hell might not have started out as a place where the souls of the damned spent in eternal torment, but long before Lucifer's fall Hell had become a place where dead sinners went.  One might question why Lucifer agreed to this arrangement. They might claim that Deamiel might have given Lucifer rule over this section as a means to placate him, but Lucifer doesn't agree with this opinion. Considering he had neither been born nor raised within Hell there are many aspects of its cultural that he will never understand and as such it was logical to have the one who had always been a denizen of hell to rule over the people.

Lucifer believed Deamiel concluded that one who had fallen from grace was best suited to decide the punishment of others who have fallen from grace. Perhaps, he thought Lucifer's angelic nature would make him more merciful. More than that, he had to know that by allowing Lucifer to rule over that section of hell that would lead people to think Lucifer was sole leader. There was power in belief and Deamiel wouldn't foolishly ignore this truth in making this decision. Over the eons, various denizens of hell found themselves within Lucifer's ranks. He had many lovers during this time, but he had never thought of marrying one--that was until she came along. Her name was Kisara. She was an angel who had traveled to Hell because she had started to ask the same questions, he had that lead Lucifer to rebel. She had merely wished to speak with him, but the two ended up falling in love and getting married. They lived happily as a married couple for a time before she decided that she needed to return to heaven. While he didn't wish to see her go, he understood her decision. She vowed to return once her business there was done, but when she didn't return on the agreed upon date, he feared the worst had happened.
